The Housemaid

The Housemaid is a tense, fast-paced psychology thriller filled with twisted secrets, manipulation and unexpected outcomes. The story shadows Millie, a young woman who takes a live-in housekeeping job with a very wealthy family; The Winchesters, only to discover they're not as perfect as they seem. They however aren’t the only ones hiding secrets—Millie has a few of her own from her scarring past.

One of the strongest parts of the book is how quickly the story pulls you in, keeping you hooked from the start to the very end. The chapters are short and fairly easy to read, while the constant questions about who can be trusted create a strong sense of suspense. The plot twists are definitely the biggest highlights, just when you think you know what's happening, something changes or new information is revealed pointing elsewhere.

I personally really enjoyed The Housemaid and it's one of my favourite thrillers that kept me questioning what was actually going on. Millie's situation made me curious from the beginning, especially when she landed the housekeeping job I knew things were about to get complicated. Furthermore, seeing Millie and her relationship with each of the members of the Winchester family was one of the most intriguing things about this book which left me on the edge of my seat.

This book played with my expectations and drew me in changing my perspective every few chapters. The tense atmosphere, strange behaviour from the characters, and constant feeling that something was wrong made the story feel so addictive. Although, some parts felt a little unrealistic and over-the-top, this was still such a fascinating and unpredictable read. It’s definitely the type of book that makes you say, “Just one more chapter,” and suddenly you’ve finished it.
